Coach: Curtis Clark
School: Bettendorf High School
Coach’s reason for nomination: "The unseen hours this young man has put in for years has elevated his game to an elite level," Coach Clark says. "He is a self-driven athlete who understands the many ways to improve and use all of his resources. I have thrown a lot of information at him this season and he's always been receptive to coaching. His speed in practice and in drills doesn't change from his game speed, he is a true competitor regardless of the situation. DJ has an infectious personality and has a knack for making teammates smile away from competition."
How does the athlete train for this sport? "I train at least five days a week with my trainer Jordan Delp working on little things to improve my game."
What advice do you have for someone interested in trying this sport? "If you want to be good at something it all starts with mentality. You can have all the talent in the world but without that killer instinct it doesn’t mean anything."
Athlete’s plans after high school: "My plan is to play at the Division 1 level and hopefully continue playing after my college education."
