School: Bettendorf High School
Parent: David Olson
Why was the student nominated? "Ryan has shown great progress in learning to work hard and push past adversity. Her improvement shows in her ability to get her assignments in on time and advocating for herself when she is struggling. Her mature perspective has gained her academic and social growth, as well as success. Because of this growth she is very motivated to align her classes to help her reach her goals even when the choices she is making can be hard to complete. We appreciate a student that can make a plan for their future and find the people in their life to help guide them," said BHS teacher Annette Zelnio and school counselor Shelby Schalk.
What are you most proud of? "I am most proud of focusing on my school work and not failing any classes since freshman year."
What makes you happy? "I am a family person, being around my family and hanging out with them makes me happy."
What teacher has inspired you and why? "Ms. Leibfried, last year I was going through some rough times and she really helped me. She did more than a teacher usually does by taking the time to talk to me and see how I was doing."
What is your reaction to honor? "I am really surprised and happy because there are thousands of kids in this school and I was picked. I am also proud of myself for working hard and meeting some of my goals."
