Events planned in honor of Veterans Day:
10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Davenport Veterans Day Parade, downtown Davenport.
10 a.m., Saturday, Hero Street Memorial Park, 145 2nd St., Silvis, with a speech by Maj. Gen. Edward Daly, commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command.
11 a.m., Saturday, American Legion Post 227, 829 16th Ave., East Moline, with a speech by Col. Grant L. Morris, director of operations G3/517, Army Sustainment Command. Luncheon will follow.
1 p.m., Saturday, Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Maj. Gen. Duane A. Gamble, commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, will speak. There also will be a wreath placement, an honor salute and taps.
2 p.m., Saturday, Veterans Memorial Park, 1645 23rd St., Bettendorf, U.S. Army Colonel Bradley J. Cook, will speak. Mayor Bob Gallagher, Alderman Greg Adamson and the commanders from the VFW, VVA, and American Legion will attend.
Colonel Davenport House, located on the north shore of Arsenal Island, will be open for Veterans Day Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Admission is $1 for adults and free for kids, and active and retired military.
The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, West Branch, Iowa, will show the film Joyeux Noel at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Figge Art Museum Auditorium. Admission is free for all current and former military members.
Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, 1300 River Drive, Moline, will serve veterans and active military a complimentary lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or dinner from 4-10 p.m. on Friday. Veterans and active military must show a valid form of military or veteran’s identification. The special menu includes sides and a non-alcoholic beverage. For reservations, call 309-736-0100.
Niabi Zoo will host Breakfast with the Bald Eagle at 9 a.m. Saturday. Admission is $18 for members, $22 for non-members and $15 for veterans and includes a breakfast buffet. The Veterans Day Share-A-Haircut Program will be Saturday at Hair Cuttery, 3915 41st Ave. Drive, Moline. For every haircut purchased on this day one free haircut certificate will be donated to a local veteran.
