Frozen Landing open for the season

The Frozen Landing ice rink is open for the season at Middle Road and 23rd Street in Bettendorf.

The rink is free, and open to all ages and ability levels. Skates for children and adults are available for rent for $2. Hockey skates may be used, but hockey sticks and pucks are not allowed. Concessions also are available for purchase.

Frozen Landing will be open the following hours:

  • Noon to 9 p.m., Monday-Thursday
  • Noon to 10 p.m., Friday
  • 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday
  • Noon to 6 p.m., Sunday

Hours are weather dependent. The rink will be closed for rain, snow accumulation of 2 inches or more until the rink is cleared, temperatures above 50 degrees or below 5 degrees and wind chill of -15 degrees.

IPTV pajama party at the Family Museum set for Dec. 1

Iowa Public Television will host free family pajama parties across Iowa on Friday, Dec. 1, to coincide with the launch of IPTV KIDS .2, a new channel devoted entirely to children's programming.

The local party will be 6:30-8 p.m. at the Family Museum, Bettendorf, and will include a screening of PBS KIDS Family Night programs, a “bedtime” snack of milk and cookies and a souvenir for families to take home. Families are encouraged to wear pajamas and slippers.

The party also will include time to meet and greet Dan Wardell, host of IPTV KIDS Clubhouse.

Holiday Dog Walk planned for Dec. 3

Bettendorf Parks and Recreation Department will host a Holiday Dog Walk at 1 p.m., Sunday, December 3. The walk begins at Crow Creek Dog Park, in the SPOTT area for old and timid dogs. The 2.5 mile walk will continue along Crow Creek Trail past the quarry to Middle Road, and back.

Water will be available at the Middle Road turn-around point, and coffee, cider and hot chocolate, along with music and refreshments, will be available at the end of the walk.

The event is free and open to the public, but will be canceled in the case of inclement weather.

Holiday movie night at Life Fitness Center

Bettendorf Parks and Recreation will screen "Arthur Christmas" at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 at Life Fitness Center, Bettendorf. There will be holiday-themed activities prior to the movie.

Life Fitness Center offers girl’s self-defense classes

Life Fitness Center will offer self-defense classes for girls in December. Participants will learn how to avoid conflict, protect personal information, date safely and deal with bullying. Physical defense will be taught as a last resort.

Classes available are:

Princess Power, ages 9-12, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, $20

Miss Independent, ages 13-15, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, $20

Tis the Season is set for Dec. 10

The City of Bettendorf will host the eighth annual Tis the Season senior holiday celebration at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Waterfront Convention Center, 2021 State St., Bettendorf. Doors open at 1 p.m.

Registration begins Monday, Nov. 13 and ends Friday, Dec. 1 or when the event is full. No early registrations will be accepted. To register, call 563-344-4000.

The evening will include an opening greeting from Mayor Bob Gallagher, holiday music, refreshments and feature performances by Family Museum Dancers, Quad-City Ukulele Club, magician David Casas, Bettendorf High School Chamber Choir and Swinney Family Band.

City Administrator Decker Ploehn will host the event and members of the City Council and city staff will serve.

The event is free and open to all Quad-Cities seniors 60 years and older.
