Global Gathering Korea celebrates heritage, culture at Bettendorf Public Library

Throughout October, the Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive, will feature Global Gathering Korea, a series of programs and activities related to Korea and its people.

The two-month celebration of culture, heritage and tradition will include displays of objects and art, and new library materials available for checkout.

Featured programs include a Tae Kwon Do demonstration Saturday, Oct. 28.

Local author E.D. Martin to share short story collection at Bettendorf library

E.D. Martin will read from and discuss her short story collection, "The Futility of Loving a Soldier," at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive.

Martin explores the physical and psychological effects of combat, both on those who serve and those back home through the points of view of spouses and children as well as soldiers themselves.

Martin is also the author of the women’s fiction novel “Yours to Keep or Throw Aside” and numerous short stories. She currently lives in Rock Island where she attends graduate school while working on her novels. Find more of her works at

The Read Local event will include a question-and-answer session, book sales and book signing.

Read Local programs are a partnership between the Bettendorf Public Library and the Midwest Writing Center, which highlights six recently published Quad-City area authors every year.
