Bettendorf Public Library co-sponsors local authors’ events

Bettendorf Public Library and the Midwest Writing Center will co-sponsor a series of free events that highlight local authors beginning this month.

Read Local will feature author and reporter Jonathan Turner at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 at the library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive, Bettendorf.

Turner will read from his book, “A Brief History of Bucktown: Davenport’s Infamous District Transformed,” followed by a question-and-answer session.

Read Local events will be held bi-monthly the second Wednesday at the Bettendorf Public Library and are open to the public.

Library to host discussion

on women’s magazines

The World Affairs Council of the Quad-Cities and the Bettendorf Public Library are hosting Between the Covers: Shaping Feminism in Bangladesh and India at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive.

Speaker Dr. Umme Al-Wazedi, associate professor of English, and women’s and gender studies at Augustana College, will discuss how the function of women’s magazines in Bangladesh and India.

The event is free and open to the public.

The World Affairs Council of the Quad-Cities is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to foster global education and international understanding within the Quad-Cities and beyond.

IONS-QC will meet March 8

The Institute of Noetic Sciences Quad-Cities Community Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Bettendorf Public Library.

C.J. and Lori Monzyk will present “Experiences at an Indian Ashram.” The next book club meeting also will be announced. The book is "Entangled Minds" by Dr. Dean Radin, chief scientist at IONS.

The program is free and open to the public.
