Shoreline Drive closed for 10 days

Shoreline Drive just south of U.S. Highway 67, or State Street, will be closed for rail crossing repairs for approximately 10 days. The closure began Nov. 8. Traffic has been detoured to 62nd Street Court.

Mother/Son Night of Fun returns to Life Fitness Center

The second annual Mother/Son Night of Fun will be held from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Life Fitness Center, Bettendorf. Mothers and sons participate in games and activities and compete for prizes during this fundraiser for the Friends of Bettendorf Parks Foundation. Holiday Dog Walk planned for Dec. 3

Bettendorf Parks and Recreation Department will host a Holiday Dog Walk at 1 p.m., Sunday, December 3. The walk begins at Crow Creek Dog Park, in the SPOTT area for old and timid dogs. The 2.5 mile walk will continue along Crow Creek Trail past the quarry to Middle Road, and back.

Water will be available at the Middle Road turn-around point, and coffee, cider and hot chocolate, along with music and refreshments, will be available at the end of the walk.

The event is free and open to the public, but will be canceled in the case of inclement weather.

Holiday movie night at Life Fitness Center

Bettendorf Parks and Recreation will screen "Arthur Christmas" at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 at Life Fitness Center, Bettendorf. There will be holiday-themed activities prior to the movie.

Saturday, Nov. 11: 2:30 p.m., Hennepin Canal Parkway Trail - Wyanet, Illinois. Hiking east from near Wyanet along the Hennepin Canal Parkway Trail. The Hennepin Canal cascades down the eastern slope of the Bloomington Moraine towards Bureau and the Illinois River.

Saturday, Nov. 18: 2:30 p.m., The Hauberg Trail - Loud Thunder Forest Preserve, 19406 Loud Thunder Road, Illinois City. A hike along the Mississippi River and the old Sac Fox Trail on the ridge above the river. We will view the large boulder and memorial placed by the Black Hawk Hiking Club and dedicated to the memory of John Hauberg (club founder) on Nov. 22, 1956. Be prepared to eat birthday cake and drink hot chocolate, celebrating John Hauberg's birthday. Bring your lawn chair and your own cup.
