A bicyclist riding along Rock Island’s 7th Avenue near Augustana College was severely injured Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle whose driver then fled the scene.

Rock Island police said they received a call about the crash at 6:49 p.m. from a person who found the adult woman lying in the roadway in the area of 29th Street and 7th Avenue.

The victim was taken to Trinity Rock Island with serious injuries, but she is expected to recover, police said.

The name of the victim was not released.

Police did not have a description of the vehicle late Tuesday.
