The annual Bikes for Brains bike giveaway will be held Dec. 10 at the Martin Luther King Center in Rock Island.

The event’s organizers hope to hand out bikes to more than 100 needy children, but donations are still needed to purchase the bikes. Each donation of $50 grants a young child a bike, training wheels and a helmet. Donors can contribute any amount at Bikes for Brains, c/o Queen’s Parlour, 171 19th Ave., Moline, IL 61265. Checks should be made payable to “Bikes for Brains.”

Recipients are selected by Head Start, Early Childhood Centers, Children’s Therapy Center, Youth Hope, Winnie’s Place and The Project. Thanks to the joint effort of Bike ‘N Hike, Queen’s Parlour and the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education, more than 1,000 children have received their first bicycle through the project.
