DES MOINES — David Roederer, Gov. Terry Branstad’s budget director, is reported to be “alert and in good spirits” at a Des Moines hospital after passing out in his Statehouse office earlier today.

Branstad spokesman Tim Albrecht said there was no other information regarding the condition of Roederer, 62, who also serves as director of the Iowa Department of Management. Roederer, who previously served as Branstad’s chief of staff and held other state posts as well as GOP campaign positions, suffered a heart attack in 1994.
