A perfect setting for watching the Bix 7 along Kirkwood Boulevard.
That is what John Bribriesco and family have tried to provide each of the past 15 years in front of their house just east of Brady Street.
Biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, potato casseroles, pastries, a host of beverages of all types, and 15 tables with umbrellas draw friends and family each Bix Saturday.
“We have had as much as 250 people,” Bribriesco said. “This year we have about 125.
“It all started 15 years ago with me and a lawn chair and a cooler. I was here with two or three other guys. But my lovely bride said we have to do something different.”
He said they have considered discontinuing the party because there is so much work that goes into it.
“Then I thought how much people enjoy it, and it keeps me going. We moved a couple of years ago and now we lease the house to a tenant. But we and the new tenants have agreed that we will have this party every year. That is what the whole weekend is all about.
“This is probably the most together weekend we have here, where everybody feels a part of it.”
Regular guest Maribeth Chase of Davenport has joined the party for most of those 15 years.
“It is just seeing our family and friends, and we know people running the race,” she said. “They know this is a pit stop.”
