The candidates for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois will be on the same stage tonight in Moline.
U.S. Rep Bobby Schilling, R-Ill., and his Democratic challenger, Cheri Bustos, are scheduled to take part in a candidate forum sponsored by the Greater Quad-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Black Hawk College’s student Democratic and Republican organizations.
The forum is scheduled from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Building 4 at Black Hawk College, 6600 34th Ave., Moline. Parking is available by Building 3 in Lot 3 and Lot 2, and the lots are accessible from 34th Avenue. The event is free.
The forum will be moderated by Augustana professor Christopher Whitt. Topics that will be discussed include the economy, jobs, education, health and immigration.
Besides Schilling and Bustos, these candidates are expected to participate:
n State Senate District 36: Sen. Mike Jacobs, Democrat, and Bill Albracht, Republican.
n State Representative for District 71: Rep. Rich Morthland, Republican, and Mike Smiddy, Democrat.
n State Representative for District 72: Rep. Pat Verschoore, Democrat, and Neil Anderson, Republican.
n State’s Attorney: John McGehee, Democrat, and Jim Wozniak, Republican.
In addition to the confirmed participants, other local county candidates will attend.
There will be voter registration areas coordinated by the College Democrats, College Republicans and Q-C Voto Latino.
