Two Clinton County preschoolers were found safe after being missing for about two hours Thursday, police said.

The brothers, ages 2 and 4, went missing about 2:30 p.m. from their family’s home in the 4300 block of 180th Street, rural Clinton. Rescuers from Clinton County Emergency Management were conducting a wide area ground search training class at Eagle Point Park in Clinton, about 5 miles away. Clinton and Jones county deputies attending the class responded immediately, along with additional deputies and a police dog.

The boys were found at 4:11 p.m. about a half-mile north of their home, which is near cornfields and wooded areas, Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln said in a media release. The boys’ mother reported that they went outside to play. She couldn’t find them when she checked on them a short time later, police said.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from Clinton and Jones counties Emergency Management, Andover and Clinton fire departments; Whiteside County (Ill.) Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol; Emergency Management Agency – Community Emergency Response Team; Clinton County Communications Emergency K-9 Operations / Search and Rescue; and Jones County Conservation

In addition, the team used “A Child is Missing,” based out of Florida, to make automated calls to neighboring residences to notify them of the two missing boys.
