The death of a male inmate in Clinton County Jail early Sunday remains under investigation, according to Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln.

At 2:43 a.m., a correctional officer discovered an unresponsive inmate. The correctional officer called for medical assistance and began CPR with assistance from other correctional officers.

Clinton Fire Department paramedics who responded to the jail were unable to revive the man. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation also responded to investigate the incident along with Clinton County deputies.

The Clinton County medical examiner’s office pronounced the man dead at the jail.

The mans' name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
