A 34-year-old Clinton, Iowa, man died Saturday about 12 hours after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on a Davenport street, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 10:03 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Marquette Street, Davenport police said.

Davenport accident investigators said that Kurt S. Hinerichsen was driving his 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Marquette Street at a high rate of speed. He was unable to negotiate the curve in the road that is near 9th Street.

The bike left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Both Hinerichsen and the motorcycle slid along the sidewalk before coming to rest about 60-70 feet north of the initial impact with the pole.

Hinerichsen, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport. He then was taken to University Hospitals, Iowa City, where he died, authorities said.
