Al Kump and his friends have less than two days to fill 4,000 bags with sand and build a flood wall.

"It came up so fast there was no time for preparation," Kump, owner of the Credit Island Bait Shop, said this morning.

Across West River Drive from his shop, the rising Mississippi had already covered the Credit Island causeway.

"It's right on the line," Kump said.

He needs volunteers. After filling the bags he plans to start building the wall later this afternoon.
