A private practice attorney from Bettendorf has been named the new Scott County associate district court judge, the Scott County Bar Association states on its website.

Mark Fowler is filling a judicial vacancy created when Scott County Associate District Judge Thomas Preacher died in May.

Fowler earned his undergraduate degree from Augustana College, Rock Island, in 1990 and his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1999. He is in private practice with the law firm of Gomez Law LLP.

Associate judges have authority to hear serious and aggravated misdemeanor cases, civil suits of $10,000 or less, small claim appeals and juvenile cases.
