A Bettendorf man was arrested Sunday on a felony charge after police say he sexually abused and assaulted a woman.
Benjamin U. Schwerdtfeger, 28, 410 28th St., was released Monday from the Scott County Jail after posting bond.
He’s charged with third-degree sex abuse, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He’s also charged with domestic assault with injury, a serious misdemeanor.
An argument started between Schwerdtfeger and the woman after she refused to have sex with him, according to his arrest affidavit. The argument turned physical, and he sexually assaulted her, the affidavit states.
The victim later told authorities that Schwerdtfeger also slammed her head against a bathroom sink, grabbed her by the throat and threw her into the bathtub, the affidavit states.
The alleged assault stopped when others in the residence intervened and found Schwerdtfeger holding the victim in a choke hold, the affidavit states.

The victim suffered numerous bruises and scratches as well as a broken nose, the affidavit states.
The victim requested a protection order, court records state.
