A Davenport man already facing drug and gun charges has now been charged in a shooting that damaged a vehicle on Monday.
Cameron Michael Smith, 24, appeared Wednesday in Scott County District Court via closed-circuit video on charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony, and possession of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon.
Bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 17.
Police were called about 10:19 to the 200 block of Pine Street for a report of shots fired. Smith was the driver of an unidentified vehicle and fired at least three shots at a passing vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit filed by Davenport police in support of the criminal complaint.
One of the bullets struck a vehicle parked in the area and police recovered three 9mm shell casings. The incident was captured on surveillance video, according to the affidavit.
Smith was convicted of intimidation with a dangerous weapon in Black Hawk County in 2012.
He was arrested Wednesday on two charges of possession with intent to deliver and one count each of possession of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon, trafficking stolen weapons, and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor.
At 12:51 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to the area of Lincoln and Boies Avenue for a report of shots fired. A witness said a silver Saturn was involved in the shooting.
Smith was later found exiting and standing next to a car that matched the witness’s description, according to police.
During a pat down of Smith, officers found a gun tucked into the front of his waist band, according to police.
A records check revealed that the gun that the defendant possessed was stolen in February in Rock Island County, according to police.
Police searched the car and found methamphetamine, Tramadol pills, and marijuana. They also found a working digital scale with loose methamphetamine on the tray and packaging material, according to police.
At the time of his arrest, Smith was free on pretrial release on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm in connection with an incident in July.
