A Davenport man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police say he tried to rob a cashier.
Carter Holden Hutchens, 26, no address given, faces one count of third-degree robbery, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison.
Bond was set Monday at $2,000 cash or surety. He has a preliminary hearing Feb. 8.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Family Dollar, 2378 Rockingham Road, according to an arrest affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint.
Police say Hutchens went into the store and approached a cashier and had his hand inside his coat.
He told the cashier to give him the money or he would “pull out his gun and shoot her,” according to the affidavit. The clerk, who was in fear for her safety, placed the money on the counter as other customers were approaching, according to the affidavit.
Hutchens then told the cashier that he was kidding and left the store, according to the affidavit.
