A Davenport elementary school teacher pleaded not guilty Thursday, more than a week after a federal grand jury indicted him on charges of receiving and distributing child pornography and possession of child pornography.

A trial slated to last two weeks has been scheduled Sept. 5 for Michael Loren Ross, 43, in U.S. District Court, Davenport.

He will be back in court Aug. 14 for a pretrial conference. Magistrate Judge Stephen B. Jackson Jr. set a plea deadline date of Aug. 22, according to court records.

The investigation into Ross began March 27 after a special agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation received a tip through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a user named "Mike Ross” uploaded a child pornography video to his Dropbox account on Feb. 7, according to court records.

The account had numerous files that depicted prepubescent females performing sex acts, according to court records.

Ross admitted to police during a search of his home on June 20 that he possessed child pornography and that he both received and distributed it, according to court records.

He was arrested June 26. The Davenport Community School District placed him on administrative leave the same day.
