A man was arrested Tuesday after Bettendorf residents allegedly interrupted his attempted burglary of their home.

Bettendorf police were called to 6092 Valley Drive at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday to respond to a report of a burglary, according to a news release from the city.

The residents reported that they had come home and found a man in their home. The man allegedly assaulted one of the residents and then fled on foot, but was found by police in the 3400 block of Moenks Road about 2:20 p.m. and was taken into custody, police said.

Justin Chambers, 31, of Bettendorf, faces charges of second-degree burglary, assault while participating in a felony and possession of burglary tools.

The resident who was assaulted was not injured, city spokeswoman Lauran Haldeman said.

Police are investigating whether Chambers is connected to other burglaries in the area that occurred earlier this month.
