Silvis police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the armed robbery of a Silvis convenience store early Wednesday, Silvis Police Chief William Brasche said.
Dujor Sunjay Ronny Simpson of Carbon Cliff is facing charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
Simpson was being held in the Rock Island County Jail.
Brasche said that Silvis police responded to the Q-C Mart, 1440 1st Ave., Silvis, at 5:06 a.m. Wednesday in reference to an armed robbery.
A man had entered the business shortly after the store opened at 5 a.m., brandished a handgun and demanded money. The man then fled the store on foot.
Silvis police arrested Simpson at 11:13 a.m., about six hours after the robbery.
Simpson was convicted in two felony cases in Rock Island County Circuit Court in 2012. In one case, he was convicted of felony use of a forged credit or debit card. In the other case, he was convicted of felony burglary.
Armed robbery is a Class X felony under Illinois law that carries a prison sentence of from six to 30 years. Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon is a Class 3 felony that carries a prison sentence of two to five years.
Brasche said Silvis police were assisted by the Illinois State Police, Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department, Rock Island Police K-9 unit, East Moline Police and Moline Police.
