Two Moline men have been sentenced to 20 days in the Rock Island County Jail and a year of probation for using boxing gloves to beat a dog.

Ryan Michael Ramon and Andrew Meegan, both 23, also must perform 100 hours of public service and undergo alcohol and mental health treatment, Associate Judge Gregory Chickris ordered Monday.

Ramon and Meegan were found guilty of cruelty to animals, a Class A misdemeanor, following a bench trial in late June.

Patrol officers were sent to the 3800 block of 10th Avenue about 8:30 a.m. Oct. 10 for a report of a dog being beaten by two men.

Officers found a 12-year-old black chow-collie mix named Bear bleeding from the area of its eyes, according to police.

Neighbors told officers the names of the two men who were seen beating the dog with boxing gloves, according to police.
