UPDATED: Police have arrested a man in connection with an early morning break-in at Lincoln Alternative School in Clinton.

The incident occurred about 1 a.m. at the school at 1850 S. Bluff Blvd.

When officers arrived they found a broken window and heard glass breaking on the south side of the school. Police found Alexander Ruiz, 36, no address listed, walking east on the 1800 block of 13th Avenue South. Police said Ruiz then fled and struck a police officer with a crowbar before being apprehended.

Ruiz faces charges of interference with official acts, assault on a police officer, 2nd and 3rd degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, along with outstanding warrants for burglary, theft and controlled substance from Johnson and Scott counties and Bettendorf.

The incident remains under investigation by the Clinton Police Department.
