A 23-year-old Davenport woman caring for three children left them at home while she was found early Wednesday drunk in an alley a block away, police said.

Heather M. Young was in the Scott County Jail Wednesday charged with three counts of child endangerment, all aggravated misdemeanors, and one count of public intoxication.

Officers responded to the 800 block of West 15th Street, Davenport, where Young had been seen in an alley about 12:28 a.m., according to her arrest affidavit.

Officers found her returning home at 1:04 a.m., where she admitted there were three children ages 4, 3 and 7 months inside, the affidavit states. The children were left unsupervised for at least 30 minutes, the affidavit states.

Officers say Young had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet with a strong odor of alcohol coming from her, the affidavit states.

An aggravated misdemeanor is punishable by up to two years in prison.

does the article say if any of these kids are hers or if she is the caretaker? Or what is her relationship to the children? she is lucky nothing happened to the kids while she was out. remember the k-mart fire, where the kids in the car played with a lighter ....

Never ceases to amaze me that every time we see a story like this all the other “trashy” Mothers come out of the woodwork to save the accused from negative comments. Do they really think the Police have a reason concoct a story like this? Why would they and how would they benefit from doing so? Welcome to another episode of Crappy Mothers Unite!

Another idiot, like the one leaving the infant in the car........funny how I raised my 2 kids and NEVER EVER drank/got drunk......or left mine alone. These people and anyone who defends them ARE PATHETIC!!!

John Rambo

One of the upstanding citizens defending the actions of this person who is unfit to care for another human being was also defending the actions of the mother who left her infant in a car while attending exercise classes at Kosama! It certainly is a cruel irony that people like this can pop out kid after kid, while some others who would make loving responsible parents are unable to have children. I pray for the future of our society.

The children are too young to be miners..they were minors. I love the education system..

lovinglife

Pathetic how some people have no life....

Do u no this women ... Where u there... No!! She is not guilty until proven so when u go to making smart remarks your making ur self look like your spending to much time on the inter net and not tending to your kids.. ... To much time even caring about someone else and how they live... Half these fathers dont even see there kids or take care of them un less the state makes them ... The news and the police can say and do what they want but i will not get my self on your level i have a life to live so carry on... Pathatir

It's better to remain silent and let people suspect you are a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Well Lovinglife, seems to me you live by a double standard since you too are on the internet and possibly not tending to your own children while worrying about the opinions of someone, so you too are not minding your own business. I agree you should carry on with your life if you agree that leaving young children as young as 7 months old and the oldest being only 4 years old is an ok thing to do while the woman who was supposed to be taking care of them was found outside the home drunk on her butt. Lovinglife this maybe something you think is acceptable but for some of us who have common sense,,,yeah we know its wrong and she deserves to be punished.

With grammar like that I think the only level you are on is a third graders level.

Get a life

Orpheus

Yes, I agree. A mother should absolutely be able to (allegedly) get drunk enough to wander around in public only to pass out in an alley while leaving small children unattended at home. Oh, yes! WE are the ones who must "get a life".

Ms Griff

I agree with cd1001....you do NOT get drunk when you are the caretaker of miner..PLAIN & SIMPLE!!

donjuan463

Me, too.

mom6

before anyone out there decides to make any self righteous posts about how horrible this woman is and how she shouldn't be allowed to parent, they better first decide they are never again going to drink at home while they have children, because you never know what sort of stupid drunken thing you might do.

cd1001

Yes, well, when you have three kids under 5 and you're the only caretaker, you DON'T get drunk. Period. What a ridiculous comment.

John Rambo

A statement like that makes your own parenting credibility questionable...

3mom

Seriously that is scary to say. Did you see the ages mom6? Whom did she presume would take care of the children when they woke up hungry? Themselves probably. What a piece. And if you do drink at home, and are responsible for children, you should probably stop after one.

Steven Patrick

Would.

John Rambo

What a pillar of society. A person like this has no business being around children.

lovinglife

Get a life,

John Rambo

With your remark, it leaves me no other choice than to believe you are actually defending this persons actions! As hard as that is to believe, it shows me (and any other responsible, sane individual) that you too should have no business with children. And for what it is worth, I have quite a nice life! That said, when I am taking care of my children or any child, for that matter, I always put their lives ahead of mine. That is the way it is supposed to be. If a person is not able to place that level of importance on caring for a child, then the person should not be caring for a child. It's a pretty simple concept, really.

John Rambo................perfect, well stated :)
