Davenport police have released the name of the man who died after being beaten and stabbed Thursday in Davenport’s LeClaire Park.
Romane Nunn Sr., 29, of Davenport, was attacked in the park Thursday night.
Nunn was taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport, for treatment and died at the hospital.
The incident occurred at 8:21 p.m. while scores of people were in LeClaire Park playing the popular game Pokemon Go. Many people who heard the commotion and looked up from their cellphones to witness the act gave police statements that quickly led to the arrest of two men.
Teddy Grevas of Moline said he and his friends were playing Pokemon Go when the commotion began.
“We saw part of it,” Grevas said. “He (the victim) was already on the ground, and they were beating and kicking him. It looked like they were trying to kill him.”
Durell Ryan Parks Jr., 34, and William Earl Crawford, 42, both of Davenport, were arrested Friday morning. Each man is charged with one count each of first-degree murder and willful injury causing serious injury.
A conviction of first-degree murder would result in an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Parks and Crawford were being without bond Saturday night in the Scott County Jail.
A preliminary hearing for Crawford has been scheduled for Aug. 30 in Scott County District Court, according to district court electronic records. No date was given for Parks’ preliminary hearing.
