A woman woke up to find a 45-year-old man sexually abusing her, and when her friends tried to call 911, he pulled a knife on them, police said.
Stanford S. Wells was in the Scott County Jail Friday charged with third-degree sex abuse and assault while displaying a weapon. Records list him living in Davenport, but no address was given.
An arrest affidavit does not mention how old the victim is, but that about 4 p.m. Thursday, she and Wells were alone together in her apartment in the 400 block of West 6th Street, Davenport.
At one point while they were alone, the victim fell asleep, and when she woke up, Wells was trying to have sex with her, the affidavit states.
He then stopped and tried to apologize for having sex with her, the affidavit states.
The victim’s friends went into the apartment right after the incident, and the victim told her friends to call police, the affidavit states. At that point, Wells pulled out a knife and tried to leave before police arrived.
As he swung the knife at the victim’s friends, he cut one of them on the hand, the affidavit states. They were able to get the knife away from Wells and hold him until police arrived.
Third-degree sex abuse is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison upon conviction. The assault charge is a misdemeanor.
