Billboard chart-hitting rapper Kevin Gates was released Wednesday on parole from the East Moline Correctional Center after serving nine months on a gun charge out of Chicago.
Gates — whose legal name is Kevin Jerome Gilyard — was sentenced in April to 30 months in prison on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm in a 2013 case.
He was taken into custody on the charge in March.
The 31-year-old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana came to prominence in 2013, and his studio album "Isiah" reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 in 2016.
