A 19-year-old man is facing sex abuse charges after he allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old girl, Davenport police said.

Joseph Tae Clark of 2929 38th Ave., Rock Island, is charged with one count of third-degree sexual abuse. The charge is a Class C felony under Iowa law that carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years upon conviction.

Clark was being held Wednesday night in the Scott County Jail on $10,000 bond.

According to the arrest affidavit filed by Davenport Police Detective Jason Gillaspie, officers responded Wednesday to Sudlow Intermediate School, 1414 E. Locust St., in reference to a report of suspicious activity.

During the investigation, it was alleged that at about 2 a.m. Sunday, Clark met the girl in the area of the school with the intent of having sex with her.

According to the affidavit, Clark admitted to having sex with the girl, knowing she was only 12 years old.

In September 2009, Davenport police charged Clark with first- and second-degree robbery in a case that was moved to juvenile court. The disposition of that case was not available in court records.
