A Rock Island man has pleaded not guilty to the beating death of 43-year-old Rochelle Davis and the assault of two juveniles in June.
Sean E. Rogers, 49, was arraigned on first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery during a hearing Tuesday morning at the Rock Island County Justice Center.
He will be back in court Aug. 18. Rogers remained in the Rock Island County Jail Tuesday on a $500,000 cash bond.
Rock Island Police were called at 10:12 p.m. June 2 to the 700 block of 25th for a battery complaint.
When officers arrived, they found an 11-year-old and a 16-year-old who had suffered injuries. Both were taken to Trinity Rock Island; the 11-year-old was then airlifted to OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Police also found Davis dead inside the home.
Prosecutors allege that Rogers struck Davis in the head with a bat and the act was "accompanied by exceptionally brutal or heinous behavior indicative of wanton cruelty," according to court documents.
He also struck the 11-year-old in the face with a wooden object, which fractured his skull, and struck the 16-year-old in the head with a "bludgeon," according to court documents.
Police took Rogers into custody June 4 at Genesis Medical Center-West Central Park, Davenport.
