Davenport woman faces meth charges
A Davenport woman was arrested Tuesday night after police say they found more than five grams of crystal methamphetamine in her possession earlier this month.
Melinda Rochelle Heyvaert, last known address in the 2600 block of Pacific Street, faces one count of controlled substance violation, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Bond was set Wednesday at $50,000 cash or surety. She will be arraigned Oct. 5.
At 10:20 p.m. Sept. 4, Davenport police conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Division Street on a vehicle that had a driver side taillight that was not working.
According to an arrest affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, Heyvaert had 1.35 grams of crystal methamphetamine hidden in a calculator in her purse and 3.95 grams of the drug in her bra.
She also possessed a digital scale with methamphetamine residue and packing material, according to the affidavit.
Ohio man charged in Davenport convenience store theft
Bond was set Wednesday at $10,000 cash or surety for a Middletown, Ohio, man accused of stealing more than $1,500 from a Davenport convenience store.
Joshua Ariel Jones, 25, faces one count of first-degree theft, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
He will be arraigned Oct. 5.
He remained in the Scott County Jail Wednesday afternoon on the charge and on a warrant out of Johnson County.
Davenport police responded at 8:55 p.m. Monday to Brady Mart, 3107 Brady Street, after Jones reached over the counter and took $1,560 cash, according to an arrest affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint.
The cash was within five feet of the clerk.
Officers pulled surveillance video and were able to identify Jones using his license plate, according to the affidavit. They also used photographs in local records, according to the affidavit.
Jones was located in the suspect vehicle Tuesday in the 1100 block of West Locust Street. He had $1,286 in his pockets at the time of his arrest, according to the affidavit.
