A sinkhole in Davenport
Work is underway to repair a sinkhole in the median on Davenport’s River Drive between Gaines and Brown streets, forcing the closure of two westbound lanes of River Drive until work is completed sometime before the end of August. “There’s a large-diameter storm sewer that runs underneath that median,” said city engineer Brian Schadt and explaining the difficulty of the job. “It’s so deep that water sits in the pipe virtually at all times."
Off limits art
The Figge holds roughly 4,000 objects in its storage area, filling the 5,400 square feet unseen by the general public. Many of which came from a generous Davenport donor who collected much of the artwork in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Columnist Barb Ickes will take you behind the scenes in the latest installment of her "Off Limits" series, coming this weekend.
That aforementioned sinkhole might slow your drive if you're headed through downtown Davenport.
There's a brief chance of thunderstorms this evening before a quiet night settles in.
