Two Special Olympics athletes from Davenport will return home from South Korea this afternoon with snowshoeing gold medals from the World Games.

Debbie McDaniel, 37, won two gold medals, while Stuart Brown, 33, won gold and silver. They were part of separate gold-medal winning 4-by-100 meter snowshoe relay teams. McDaniel also won gold in the 200-meter race in her division, while Brown took second in his division’s 200-meter race.

The Davenport athletes were among 3,300 from 112 countries who competed from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5 in PyeongChang in several winter sports.

The only event the Davenport athletes didn’t take medals was the 100-meter snowshoe race where McDaniel finished fifth and Brown finished sixth in their respective divisions.
