Davenport firefighters responded to a second-floor apartment fire Monday night on West 5th Street that caused damage but didn’t injure anybody.

Firefighters were still on the scene shortly before 10 p.m. They didn’t know the cause but said the apartment at 1207 1/2 W. 5th St. was not occupied. People who were in the downstairs apartment were alerted to the fire and made it out safely.

The American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities said Monday it was helping two adults and a child with basic needs. District Chief Paul Hartman said there was fire damage to one room and smoke damage in other parts of the building. He did not have a damage estimate.
