The Iowa Department of Transportation wants to know what travelers are experiencing during the upcoming storm and has an array of ways for people to access safety information via social media.  The network of dynamic message boards on state highways will show safety messages to assist drivers during the storm.

Follow the Iowa DOT’s twitter feed at @iowadot or @statewide511. Use the hashtag #iatraffic to contribute information during this storm that could be valuable to others who are considering travel.

Share photos and video by enabling geotagging on your mobile device. Geotagging helps the DOT and travelers stay informed about traffic incidents and road conditions based on citizen observations. When posting to Twitter reference @iowadot in the post. Tag the DOT in posts and photos on Facebook.

In Illinois, check for winter road condition updates on gettingaroundillinois.com.
