Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal crash between two semi-trucks early Sunday on westbound Interstate 80 at mile post 22.

The accident happened at 4:47 a.m. when one semi-truck was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 80 westbound at mile post 22. The other semi-truck, which was traveling westbound on Interstate 80, struck the rear of the first truck.

The driver who was traveling westbound was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.

Interstate 80 westbound between Atkinson and Geneseo was closed for several hours.

Charges may be filed pending an investigation. No other details were available late Sunday.
