CLINTON, Iowa - Despite what some people may think, every human being has rhythm.
Gwen Deming of Clinton has facilitated drum circles for many organizations and people of all ages. She says connecting to the rhythm that occurs naturally in daily life can have many health benefits, but she is hoping the drum circles for women she will host at the Bickelhaupt Arboretum this summer will be about relieving stress and having fun.
The Gather the Women drum circles will be held from 6-8 p.m. June 23, July 21, Aug. 25 and Sept. 29 at the arboretum, located at 340 S. 14th St. in Clinton.
Deming said while
children have no inhibitions about drumming, adults often are more reluctant to get involved at first.

"Usually if people have any doubts, after the first rhythm, they're smiling," Deming said.
Participants are not required to attend every session and do not have to register in advance, Deming said. Participants also are welcome to bring their own drum, but drums will be provided to those who don't have them.
Francie Hill, executive director of the Bickelhaupt Arboretum, said the drum circle series is a unique event that fits in well with the arboretum's quiet, natural environment.
