A Davenport elementary school was on police lockdown for 30 minutes this afternoon after a child reported seeing a suspicious-looking adult near school grounds, spokeswoman Dawn Saul said.

“The child thought the adult had a weapon,” she said about the incident at Buchanan Elementary School, 4515 N. Fairmount St.

Davenport police were called to the school, where they remain at the scene, wrapping up their investigation, an officer said.

However, it appears no weapon was found, and the lockdown has been lifted, police said.

“Everybody’s fine,” Saul said. “There’s an all-clear at Buchanan.“

School officials are using auto-dialer technology to alert parents.
