The resignation of a North High School coach and special education teacher charged with sexually abusing a student was accepted without comment Monday night by the Davenport School Board.

District spokeswoman Dawn Saul confirmed that Daniel Schneiderman, 37, resigned from his position as the special education department head and as the head basketball coach.

According to Monday's board meeting agenda, the resignation was effective Sept. 30.

Saul said she did not know exactly when Schneiderman tendered his resignation.

The board voted unanimously to accept the resignation and other personnel matters throughout the district listed under the consent agenda.

Schneiderman, who was arrested Aug. 30, is free on bond and is charged with third-degree sexual abuse-forcible fondling, sexual exploitation by a school employee and telephone dissemination of obscene material to a minor.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Nov. 1.
