The Eldridge Fire Department is investigating a fire that caused $250,000 in damage to a local paint removal business.

About a half dozen employees were evacuated after a fire broke out shortly after 7 a.m. inside a furnace at American Finishing Resources, 330 N. 16th Ave., Chief Tyler Schmidt said.

No one was injured. The cause is under investigation.

The building sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, Schmidt said.

Icy conditions on the ground and frigid weather early Friday made tackling the fire even more difficult, Schmidt said.

Meanwhile, investigators are still trying to determine what caused the Jan. 17 fire that destroyed Del's Eatery & Pub, 102 W. LeClaire Road, Eldridge. Schmidt said that as of Friday the cause was still unknown.

Wow, I hope they do not have an arsonist on the loose in Eldridge.
