Davenport firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a home in northwest Davenport.

The fire was reported Monday shortly before noon at 1823 W. 68th St. The fire was reported by neighbors.

Upon arrival, firefighters forced entry and promptly extinguished the fire in the one family split foyer home. Fire damage was confined to the main floor bath and hallway. There was smoke and heat damage throughout.

Residents were at work at the time.

Firefighters rescued a cat and a snake. Another cat perished in the fire. No one was injured.

The fire originated in the main bath. The cause is believed to be accidental.

The investigation is continuing.
