While DeWitt firefighters battled a blaze on the 700 block of First Street Sunday evening, representatives of the American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities Area met with the family to ensure that their emergency needs, including shelter, food and clothing, were being met.

The Red Cross is assisting one adult and two children, according to Kasey Kelly, Red Cross spokeswoman.

No one was injured because the occupants were not home when the fire broke out, according to police on the scene. Firefighters arrived at the home about 7 p.m. Sunday to see flames shooting through the roof.

No details about the identity of the family or the cause of the fire were available late Sunday.
