NEW WINDSOR, Ill. — A home was destroyed in a fire late Friday west of New Windsor.

The blaze broke out at a two-story house on 305th Street, about one mile south of Illinois 17, and the structure was engulfed when firefighters arrived, New Windsor Fire Chief Scott Frenell said.

He said the fire likely started in the basement near the furnace area, but the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate. The residents were in Florida and the home was unoccupied.

Viola, Alpha and Aledo fire departments assisted the New Windsor Fire Department.
