WEST LIBERTY, Iowa — Ammunition and rifles have been destroyed by a fire that gutted an indoor shooting range in eastern Iowa.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that the fire was reported about 3 p.m. Monday at a range operated by the West Liberty Gun Club in West Liberty.
No injuries have been reported. The fire destroyed the main building that housed a 15-stall indoor rifle range and the club’s meeting spot.
Club president David Kelzenberg says two club members used water on the fire after it was discovered, but the flames quickly spread through much of the building.
Kelzenberg says there was little danger from ammunition being cooked off. He says the powder can explode from the heat, but the bullet doesn’t speed away.
