FULTON, Ill. — A fire destroyed a rural Fulton trailer home, leaving a family of seven homeless.

Fulton Assistant Fire Chief Ray Sikkema said the fire at 18627 Frog Pond Road was reported at 4:16 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters arrived to find the front of the trailer engulfed in flames.

“No one was home at the time,” Sikkema said. “They had gone out to get some supper. One of their friends called and told them their trailer was on fire, so they never got to that supper.”

The trailer is a total loss due to fire, heat and smoke damage, he added. The home was insured, Sikkema said.

The Gateway Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family of four adults and three children with emergency shelter, food and clothing.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Sikkema said.
