A couple and their dog escaped safely Sunday afternoon when a fire broke out in their home in rural LeClaire.

LeClaire Fire Chief Mark Slagle said the fire started shortly before 2 p.m. at the single-story home at 27682 Territorial Road, north of the LeClaire quarries.

“When we arrived, there was a fire on the northwest roof area,” Slagle said, adding that firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze.

The couple cannot return to their home until repairs are made, he said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting LeClaire firefighters were Bettendorf and Princeton fire departments, the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Medic EMS and LeClaire police, Slagle said.
