The American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities Area is assisting residents of Barstow and Port Byron who are being evacuated from their homes because of the flood.

Kasey Kelly, regional communications manager with the Red Cross, said firefighters notified the agency about the evacuation of Falcon Farms mobile home park in Port Byron, on the Mississippi River; and the East Lawn Addition in Barstow near the Rock River.

“We work closely with the fire department,” Kelly said. A shelter at Eagle Ridge School, 2002 Eagle Ridge Road, Silvis, remains open to residents of both areas.

Some people affected by the flood stayed at the shelter Saturday night, Kelly said. “It’s open for people to get food, for people to stay overnight, and also as an information center,” she said.
