Several Quad-City and regional organizations have been awarded grants by the Iowa Arts Council.

In all, the council awarded $1.3 million in grants to organizations, people and projects in 66 communities, the council said in a release Thursday. Here is a rundown on the area grants:

• Midwest Writing Center, Rock Island, $4,700, for a presentation by children's author Bruce Coville.

• River Music Experience, Davenport, $10,000, for its Music City project.

• Genesius Theatre Foundation, Rock Island, $2,500, for operating expenses.

• Family Museum, Bettendorf, $15,000, for operating expenses.

• Quad-City Symphony Orchestra, Davenport, $15,000, for operating expenses.

• Putnam Museum and Science Center, Davenport, $20,000 for operating expenses.

• Figge Art Museum, Davenport, $20,000 for operating expenses.

• Muscatine Art Center, Muscatine, $10,000 for operating expenses.

• Ballet Quad-Cities, Rock Island, $10,000 for operating expenses.

• Quad-City Arts, Rock Island, $15,000, for operating expenses.

• Durant Elementary School, Durant, $995, to purchase materials for visual arts classroom.

• Easton Valley Middle & High School, Preston, $1,000, to attend "Les Miserables" in Des Moines.
