WAPELLO, Iowa — Whether construction on a new Wapello swimming pool begins this fall may depend on when the city attorney completes a review of a consultant’s contract. That was the word given to city officials and others who attended a City Council work session Thursday.
Charlie Rochford, a commercial sales representative for Pool Tech, the Cedar Rapids-based firm advising the city on the pool, said his company could move quickly on completing the design once a contract was signed. He said final design plans could be ready within six weeks.
Mayor Ron Durbin said city attorney Tim Wink was reviewing the contract but did not predict when that review would be completed.
Rochford said if the contract was approved at the council’s July 3 meeting, bid documents could be ready by Aug. 15, although it would more likely be around the middle of September.
That would still allow work to begin this year and be finished next spring.
City residents approved borrowing up to $775,000 to finance the pool during a May 7 referendum.
